WPC Core Extrusion Process

WPC Core Extrusion Molding Process

Learn how WPC wall panel cores are made through mixing, extrusion, cooling, calibration, cutting, and surface treatment.

WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) core material is mainly made from thermoplastic polymers, wood flour or plant fibers, and processing additives. Through extrusion molding, the mixed WPC material is continuously processed into panels or profiles with specific cross-sections and dimensions. It is an important process in WPC wall panel manufacturing.

Raw Material Mixing

Production begins by thoroughly mixing plastic, wood flour, and other additives according to the product formulation. Proper mixing helps ensure that the different components are evenly distributed before extrusion.

Heating, Plasticizing, and Extrusion

The mixed material enters the extruder, where it is gradually plasticized through heating, screw conveying, and shearing. The material is then pushed through a specially designed die under pressure to form the required WPC core profile. The extrusion die determines the product’s width, thickness, and internal structure.

Cooling and Calibration

The newly extruded WPC core remains at a high temperature and needs to pass through cooling and calibration equipment. This process gradually stabilizes the material while helping control its dimensions, flatness, and cross-sectional shape.

Pulling and Cutting

After cooling and calibration, the WPC core is continuously pulled through the production line and cut to the required length. Depending on the product design, additional processes such as film lamination, embossing, or sanding can be applied to create different surface finishes.

The overall process can be summarized as:

Raw Material Mixing → Heating & Plasticizing → Extrusion → Cooling & Calibration → Pulling → Cutting → Surface Treatment → Finished WPC Wall Panel

Continuous extrusion enables stable dimensions and efficient production of WPC wall panel cores. Different dies can also be used to produce WPC products with various specifications, cross-sections, and structural designs.
