WPC Trim Core Extrusion Molding Process

WPC trim cores are made by mixing, extrusion, cooling, calibration, cutting, and surface treatment for customized profiles.

The core material production process for WPC decorative trims is basically the same as that used for WPC wall panels. Both products are continuously processed through extrusion molding. The main difference lies in the product cross-section and die design: WPC wall panels typically use wider panel profiles, while WPC trims are designed with different cross-sections for specific decorative and functional applications.

WPC Decorative Trim Core Extrusion Molding

Raw Material Mixing

Production begins by thoroughly mixing thermoplastic polymers, wood flour or plant fibers, and relevant processing additives according to the product formulation. Proper mixing helps ensure that the different components are evenly distributed and provides stable material for the extrusion process.

Heating, Plasticizing, and Extrusion

The mixed WPC material enters the extruder, where it is gradually plasticized through heating, screw conveying, and shearing. The plasticized material is then pushed through a specially designed die under pressure to continuously form the WPC trim profile.

The extrusion die is an important part of trim production. Different dies can create different cross-sectional designs, including flat trims, L-shaped trims, T-moldings, corner trims, and skirting profiles, as well as other customized decorative profiles.

Cooling and Calibration

The newly extruded WPC trim remains at a high temperature and needs to pass through cooling and calibration equipment. This gradually stabilizes the profile and helps control its dimensions, straightness, and cross-sectional shape.

Pulling and Cutting

After calibration, the WPC trim is continuously pulled through the production line and cut to the required length. Depending on the final product requirements, additional processes such as film lamination, embossing, or sanding can also be applied.

The overall production process can be summarized as:

Raw Material Mixing → Heating & Plasticizing → Extrusion → Cooling & Calibration → Pulling → Cutting → Surface Treatment → Finished WPC Trim

WPC Wall Panels vs. WPC Trims

The basic extrusion process for WPC wall panels and WPC trims is essentially the same. The main differences are the die design and product cross-sectional structure.

Simply put:

The same basic process + different extrusion dies = different WPC products

By changing the extrusion die, manufacturers can produce WPC decorative trims in different sizes, cross-sections, and applications. Customized profiles can also be developed based on customer drawings or samples.

WPC trims can therefore be supplied as matching accessories for WPC wall panels or customized for specific interior decoration projects through OEM/ODM production.
